    What We Do

    ARTIS Gallery has operated as a dealer gallery in Auckland, New Zealand, since 1984.  A contemporary gallery with a strong exhibition focus, ARTIS represents a diverse range of leading New Zealand artists, many of whom have achieved international acclaim. 

     

    ARTIS is one of New Zealand’s leading sculpture galleries. Since 2017 we have been the host for MANZ (Medal Artists New Zealand) – and every two years ARTIS presents thirty sculptors in a March exhibition. Large scale works are exhibited on a plinth located outside the front entrance to the Gallery - this has been a permanent feature in Parnell since 2013.

     

    Situated beneath ARTIS is one of the largest private gallery stockrooms in New Zealand. This   open plan viewing space – the Basement Gallery – gives all our artists the unique opportunity to show their works continuously.

      Over the last five years Andrew has worked closely with Jonathan, forming a strong partnership. In April 2023, Andrew became the Director of ARTIS and Jonathan Grant Gallery. Having previously worked in professional services in both New Zealand and North America, Andrew now leads ARTIS Gallery Group, directing the vision for ARTIS Gallery and Jonathan Grant Gallery. With a unique background and artistic passion, Andrew is dedicated to continuing the strong legacy that Jonathan has built over the past thirty-four years.

      Jonathan purchased ARTIS Gallery in 1989 and moved the Gallery to its current location in Parnell, the heart of Auckland’s art district. Jonathan created a gallery structure like no other in the country, featuring three separate exhibition spaces under one roof. This unique space is an integral feature of Parnell.  

       

      Jonathan has a diverse range of expertise in the art field covering both historical and contemporary art. He advises both public and private collectors within New Zealand and overseas, with a particular focus on British and European art and expatriate New Zealand artists.

      Libby was appointed in 2011 and brought with her 15 years of experience managing a contemporary art gallery in Auckland. Libby’s wealth of expertise enhances our client consultations, artist communication, management of exhibitions, events and publications. Libby’s extensive knowledge is the driving force behind the growth of our artists and ARTIS over the past 14 years.

      Sarah joined the Gallery in 2023. Sarah has a Bachelor of Commerce majoring in Economics, as well as a Bachelor in Design at the University of Auckland. With a background in photography and design, alongside a passion for art, Sarah assists across both galleries.
