“Adore began as a portrait of Kiri Te Kanawa when I was commissioned for the Aotea Centre, Auckland. Here in this work that grew from the original portrait we see on one side the smiling Diva, and on another there are a pair of applauding hands.
My sculpture explores the interdependence of the performer and the audience. The art of the singer is nothing without the attention of the listener. And furthermore, the existence of a sculptural idol hints at the emotional stir that is very much a part of the art experience.” - Terry Stringer, March 2023
