Frm the artist: " Have you ever marveled at those onomatopoeia words that sound like the noise they describe? Like crunchy, crisp, plop, chomp, glug and fizz. Drawing is a huge part of my painting practice. When I cook I have a sketch pad near by where I translate the action into a mark. This allows me to build a vocabulary of marks that relate to my cooking practice. I use these marks in my paintings to remind me of the experience of cooking and the corresponding feeling. In a hurried weeknight meal preparation, I find it hard to be present enough to engage my senses to revel in what I'm making. But that is not the only type of cooking I do, when I'm immersed in a painting project I set aside time to cook and pay attention. Knowing this is an essential aspect of my painting practice, I do not rush, I slow down, I draw."
