A great warrior wanted to enhance his importance by securing a good number of tail feathers from the beautiful huia and sent his best kite to fly over all the forests in his land, then to bring back word of where huia could be found. The kite flew over the great warrior’s lands and in all of his forests but returned to say that no huia could be seen. Then the chief sent his kite for seven years to look beyond his lands, but the kite has never returned.
