Biography
Born in New Plymouth,  Jordan Barnes is an artist renowned for his hyper-realistic portraits and figurative paintings. His inspiration for his works comes from social observations and personal relationships, often portraying individuals in carefully chosen environments to evoke profound psychological narratives.

Barnes began his artistic journey early, selling his first piece at the age of 14 and has been consistently painting and exhibiting since he was 16. In 2010, he was awarded the inaugural NZAAT Artist Grant.

Barnes has been a finalist for the Parkin Drawing Prize multiple times, demonstrating his skill across various mediums. His works have been showcased in numerous exhibitions, including a joint exhibition with Kara Burrowes at The Central in 2025, which examined themes of solitude and isolation.

"As an artist, my ultimate goal is to deepen my understanding of the human condition, uncovering fresh perspectives on the world and our place within it."

ARTIS is thrilled to welcome Jordan to the Gallery.
