MAYDAY

“Why is there something, rather than nothing?

This is a reoccurring question that plagues me. What are we doing in this brief theatre called life? Life is a mystery, an unsolvable enigma, to which I struggle to find a meaningful answer for myself. Discursive, verbal language seems to fail entirely in connecting us intellectually with the noumenon, the inexplicable.

The purpose and motivation of my work is to create visual cyphers which could be linked to these very basic questions. The title of this exhibition, MAYDAY,  serves as a leitmotif. We humans, find ourselves in a historic process of constant paradigm changes and challenges.

I see beauty and fascination in the vast expansion of the universe, but also in the small scale of the microcosm and in everyday objects, the human artefacts. The world is a language through which it speaks to us and we are constantly trying to read it and make sense of it. This is my greater framework. I consider each work as an element in a multilayered narrative, serving as signposts in a general direction.

I hope this group of works is able to speak, to touch on an aesthetic level and to gently open a door to an inner space of reflection and contemplation as well.”
