ARTIS Gallery has been operating as a dealer gallery in Auckland, New Zealand, since 1984. A contemporary gallery with a strong exhibition focus, ARTIS represents a diverse range of leading New Zealand artists, many of whom have achieved international acclaim.
Gallery Manager, Libby Storey, has managed ARTIS since 2011. Her passion for sculpture has seen ARTIS become one of Auckland’s leading sculpture galleries. Libby has a vast knowledge of contemporary New Zealand art and regularly advises public and private collectors.
Situated beneath ARTIS Gallery is a large open plan stockroom and viewing space. Known as the BASEMENT Gallery, this area gives our artists the opportunity to continuously have their works on display.
ARTIS is one of New Zealand’s leading sculpture galleries and we feature important large works by our sculptors on the plinth located outside, at the front entrance to the Gallery.

Our People
Gallery History
Jonathan Gooderham established his first Gallery, Jonathan Grant Gallery, in 1984. Jonathan has dealt in traditional and contemporary paintings of the highest quality from the 18th through to the 21st Century. He assists collectors to select the finest quality art pieces, providing a scholarly background to each painting, advising on framing, hanging, insurance and all other aspects of collecting.
In 1989 Jonathan purchased ARTIS Gallery and moved both galleries to their current location at 280 Parnell Road, Parnell, right in the heart of the Creative Quarter of Auckland City. Today Jonathan Grant Gallery & ARTIS Gallery sit side by side offering clients a selection of both classical and contemporary art. In 2012 a third gallery space was developed to exhibit the gallery’s sculpture collection. The Basement Gallery offers clients the opportunity to view large scale sculptures and paintings from the stockroom.
Jonathan has also undertaken extensive research on the works of New Zealand expatriate artist, Frances Hodgkins. Three catalogue exhibitions of her works have been held at Jonathan Grant Galleries. A fourth exhibition is planned for November 2020. For more information please visit FrancesHodgkins.com
