“The script on this sculpture reads “Waitemata’ horizontally and vertically like waves. This one sided unique ‘medal’ fits in the palm slightly undulated like a wave. It represents a ‘mauri’ a material symbol of a life principle, source of emotions – the essential quality and vitality of a being or eternity. “

Christine Massey, 2021

Massey’s love of bronze casting began whilst studying at Ilam, Canterbury University. Professor Beadle later introduced Massey to the medal art form at Elam, Auckland University. She is a founding member of the MANZ group.

Massey participated in the XXIX FIDEM Congress & Biennale in Seixel, Lisbon, Portugal in 2005 and again in 2006/7 at the 4th Seixel Biennale.  Christine is the MANZ FIDEM Delegate

Having lived, worked and exhibited in Australia, USA, England and NZ, her works are to be found in many private collections. Massey considers all her work to be drawings in process. They are random yet repetitive in nature.
