Foolish Friends

A rabbit had suffered a serious shooting accident and was convalescing beside his burrow, to weak to move from the spot. 
When news of his illness spread, hundreds of his friends came to enquire after his health, and all took refreshment by nibbling at the pasture that grew around the invalid, until at last there was not a blade of grass within reach.
His friends waved goodbye, calling out their wishes for his speedy return to health, but when in a few days, he had began to mend, he was still to weak to go further afield in search of food.
Thus, owing to the thoughtlessness of his friends, the poor creature perished of hunger.
