Aroha Gossage — Whenua
A SELL OUT SHOW
Aroha Gossage’s exhibition, Whenua, opened on Tuesday night 28 March 2017. Gossage’s first solo exhibition at ARTIS Gallery sold out within three days. An astounding achievement for a young New Zealand artist. Her work will be featured in the next issue, #162, of Art New Zealand.
Gossage’s work focuses on articulating a desire to imbue each painting with a sense of wairua (spiritual essence) and mauri (living life principle). Her paintings convey a sense of the subtleties of Māori history and ancestry, an awareness of an environment that is in continuous change & empathy for an indigenous emotional and spiritual connection to landscape.
