Justin Boroughs is highly renowned as a realist landscape painter. The landscapes he paints are recognisable, however they always present a point of differene from reality. Through the use of intense colour, altering the effects of light and manipulating the subject matter, Borough’s work portrays heightened reality.
Boroughs studied painting at Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland University 1971 – 1975 graduating with Bachelor of Fine Arts. Tutors included Gretchen Albrecht, Don Binney and John B. Turner. He began teaching art in Auckland in 1981 and is currently teaching Senior Painting at Auckland Grammar School.
Paintings by Boroughs are held in major public and corporate collections, including the Manawatu Art Gallery, Telecom New Zealand and Fletcher Challenge. His work is frequently likened to the work of the realist New Zealand painters Graeme Sydney and Sir Peter Siddell.
