John Blackburn is recognized as an abstract painter of originality and vision.
The prevailing mood of Blackburn’s work is investigative: his primary concern is the human condition, which he seeks to explore through the interaction of memory, thought and emotion.
Blackburn’s paintings are made up of overlapping layers – each embedded with their own meaning, their own feeling. These contrasting layers interact with, reflect and counter each other creating an (at times discordant) euphony of colour, texture and form.
Intimate Works will feature a large wall hanging – Under the Bell Tent – by Blackburn alongside a collection of small paintings that showcase the artist’s surprising and intriguing use of media and materials.
This exhibition will be on display at ARTIS 16 February – 6 March 2016.
